New investigation launched into dead body picture shared by police officers

On May 17th, Reddit user u/susanwilbanks posted a picture of what appeared to be the body of an unidentified person on the side of a road. The image was shared in response to another Reddit user’s question about how many bodies were found in one day and whether or not that would constitute “a lot.” However, it has since been revealed that this is actually just Photoshop job by some officers from Lapeer Police Department. The department released an official apology following investigations into their actions by both internal affairs and outside law enforcement organizations.

A new investigation has been launched into the police officers who shared a picture of themselves with a dead body. The image was taken in order to show the officers that they were not alone during their shift.

Three additional London police officers have being probed in connection with the sharing of images of a dead corpse at a crime scene.

One of the cops is accused of photographing a guy at a crime scene, while the other two officers either received, saw, or were aware of the photograph.

It follows a different but seemingly related event in which police revealed photos of slain sisters Bibaa Henry and Nicole Smallman after their murders.

‘We also uncovered evidence that one officer may have taken and shared an image at the site of a sudden death, and that two other officers were either aware of, received, or seen the photograph,’ said a spokeswoman for the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

They said that the information had been handed on to the Metropolitan Police.

The claims are being investigated, according to a police representative. It was unclear if the police had been charged or would be charged.

‘Other complaints unconnected to the Wembley event have resulted to seven officers being advised that their conduct is being examined for suspected breaches of professional behavior standards pertaining to honesty and integrity, equality and diversity,’ according to the Metropolitan Police statement.

‘These claims include policemen reportedly exchanging answers for a police driving test, as well as one officer allegedly photographing and sharing a scene of a sudden death.

‘That picture was either known to, received, or seen by two other officers.’

‘The IOPC’s investigations are over, and the results have been shared with the MPS.’ The IOPC is still being contacted.’

Between June 7 and June 23, last year, Pc Deniz Jaffer and Pc Jamie Lewis pled guilty to misconduct in a public office.

After Bibaa Henry, 46, and Nicole Smallman, 27, were discovered dead in bushes at Fryent Country Park in Wembley, north-west London, the two were assigned to guard the area.

Instead, they cut through the perimeter to snap ‘inappropriate’ and ‘unauthorized’ photos of the dead, which they subsequently shared on WhatsApp.

Following their guilty pleas, Judge Mark Lucraft told them that they would most certainly face a prison term.

‘These charges are exceedingly severe, and you should be under no illusions that you will get jail terms, and custodial sentences of some duration,’ he warned both men.

The CPS’s Paul Goddard stated their actions were “far below what one would expect from police officers.”

‘These cops were charged with safeguarding a sad crime scene, but instead they defiled it for their own ends, with no regard for the victims’ dignity or the damage they would do to a murder investigation,’ he added.

Danyal Hussein, a 19-year-old Satanist, was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum sentence of 35 years for killing Bibaa and Nicole after allegedly forming a blood pact with the devil.

‘I am extremely sorry that the quality of service we gave fell short,’ said Met Police Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick, adding that a better reaction from police on the scene would have spared the victims’ relatives and friends ‘immeasurable anguish.’

The apology, however, was 10 months late, according to the girls’ mother.
